Dubai Commemorates 49th Annual UAE National Day with Historic Art Exhibits

National Day is the annual celebration of the UAE’s formation on December 2, 1971. It is an opportunity to recognize 49 years of unity between the seven emirates:
  1. Abu Dhabi
  2. Dubai
  3. Sharjah
  4. Umm al-Qaiwain
  5. Fujairah
  6. Ajman
  7. Ra's al-Khaimah
The holiday also honors Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who served as the UAE’s first president. In addition to marking the UAE's formal nationalisation in 1971, it is a time to reflect on the nation's spirit, history and tradition.

This year, December 1, will be observed as a holiday to mark Commemoration Day, while Wednesday and Thursday, December 2 and 3, will be official celebration days for National Day. Essentially, UAE residents will benefit from a five-day-long holiday break to celebrate the country's founding traditions, spirit and values.

This holiday is as important here as 4th of July and Cinco de Mayo are to their respective nations. While Covid-19 has impacted the ability to hold festive events for this year, the holiday usually tends to span an entire week.
